money addiction?

Q: If we can all agree that addiction is a bad thing, then why is the world’s most damaging addiction—the addiction to money—treated as if its completely acceptable? Are we all insane?

A: I used to be addicted to money. In fact I was a 1 percenter—1 in 100—a millionaire.

I also used to be actively addicted to alcohol, cocaine and meth. For 42 long years I was drunk, high or hungover every single day.

As an active addict I was never happy.

At the end of my long addiction run, I didn’t work a single day for 4 years. During that time I gave away or sold everything I owned—and eventually ended up living under a bridge carrying with me all of my remaining worldly possessions in a brown paper bag.

As a recovering booze, coke, meth and money addict, I now live in a sober living house on a small social security check and drive a 20-year-old Toyota Camry.

And I have never been happier.

So, yes. Addiction is insanity. And recovery from addiction is a wonderful thing.

I can’t remember the last time I had a bad day.

AND THAT’S THE TRUTH
