the hardest part?
Q: What was the hardest part of overcoming an addiction? How did you do it?
A: After you stop putting alcohol or whatever drug you are addicted to into your body, there is a 6- to 8-week period during which everyone experiences cravings for “just one more” drink or hit or bump or whatever.
The hardest part of overcoming an addiction (i.e., defeating relapse) is to “just say no” to “just one more”, particularly when no one else is around who will notice the lapse.
If you actually have just one more drink or hit or bump or whatever, you end up starting the addiction recovery process clock all over again.
I call advance planning for inevitable cravings “relapse insurance”. You can read about how relapse insurance helps defeat relapse here.
