Q: Why does your family want you in rehab?

A: My family hopes that, if I spend 28 days in a residential drug/alcohol treatment facility, they will teach me everything I need to know to become a recovering addict.

That’s nonsense.

It is impossible to learn the ins and outs of how to be a recovering addict in only 28 days, particularly when I’m coming off drugs and booze during the first 2 weeks—a time when I am completely unable to learn a thing.

Old Rehab is just “boot camp”.

That’s why I will make sure to get an addiction recovery sponsor while I am in Old Rehab—so that when I walk out the door he will be waiting there to take my hand—and then he will teach me what I need to know so that I don’t relapse.
